SLASH 2: The received applications

On 6th December 2020, the Open Call to apply to the season 2 of the Slash program closed. The selection process is now over, but before revealing the results in a couple of weeks, here is an overview of all the applications received.

We received a total of 172 applications… that is to say, more than twice the number of applications received for season 1! Due to the location of the Slash team in Trempo, in Nantes (France), we received a significant number of French applications. However, 23 different nationalities were represented from all over Europe.

Among the candidates, a majority were men. Nevertheless, we received 57 women applications, 2 applications in which people considered themselves as non binary, 1 application in which the person defined itself as “other” and 4 applications in which people would rather not specify. Thus, we can say that regarding the medium average of 16% of registered singer-songwriter women, we are glad to be quite above with almost ⅓ of women applications.

Another interesting data is the applicant age. An artist needs accompanying at every moment of its career, and although age was not a criteria in the selection process, it is quite pleasing to see the diversity of age groups among the applications.

As you can guess, the applications we received were indeed quite diverse: various moments of career, different ecosystems between countries and numerous musical types were represented.

Finally, some interesting data we collected are the expectations and the needs of the applicants while applying to the program. Here is a summary of the most quoted ones.

Next step is the selection process!

To be continued…
