Athens: day two

Mardi 18 fév­ri­er, la team est enfin au com­plet en ce deux­ième jour à Athènes. Alice Hubble et Joanna Rives se sont dir­ecte­ment ret­rouvées dans le grand bain. Au pro­gramme, coach­ing, coach­ing et encore coaching.

Voilà, tout le monde est là. Alice Hubble a rejoint la troupe hier soir. Juste à temps pour dîn­er, puis vanter à ses collègues les vertus du Neg­roni, ce cock­tail à base de gin, ver­mouth et Cam­pari. Joanna Rives est, pour sa part, arrivée tard dans la nuit, après avoir essuyé d’éprouvantes tur­bu­lences dur­ant son tra­jet aéri­en. Ce mat­in, la ter­rasse de l’Hôtel Ori­on est encore plus ensoleillée que la veille ; on quitte volon­ti­ers son pull. Les ret­rouv­ailles sont chaleur­euses. On s’embrasse, ah non par­don au Dane­mark pas de bisou, juste une accol­ade. Si ce n’était l’âge des « Slasheurs », on se croirait au sein d’une promo Erasmus (« Erasmos », on doit cer­taine­ment dire à Athènes).

Les ateliers com­men­cent à 10 heures. Mar­tin parle « organ­isa­tion » avec Chloé, Sylvain retrav­aille les bio­graph­ies de Simone et Marta, Alice pré­pare sa straté­gie « réseaux soci­aux » avec Hans-Paul. Ce derni­er enchaîne les ren­dez-vous. Grosse journée pour lui car il repart déjà demain et il lui faut avoir bûché avec les cinq musi­ciens avant son retour à Nantes. Surnom­mé « Hacro-Paul » par les fran­co­phones, « Sean Paul » par les anglo­phones, le com­munity man­ager écoute et pro­pose, en effraie cer­tains vu la quant­ité insoupçon­nable de choses à gérer quand on veut dévelop­per sa car­rière sur Inter­net. En fond son­ore, un haut-par­leur beugle des phrases incom­préhens­ibles. Les loc­aux nous expli­quent qu’un type ratisse le quart­i­er en voit­ure pour tenter de refourguer son frigo ou sa machine à laver.

Gregg embarque ensuite Simone pour une séance photo sur un ter­rain de bas­ket qu’il a repéré à quelques rues de l’hôtel. Simone vit à Aar­hus, la deux­ième ville du Dane­mark en ter­mes de pop­u­la­tion. Musi­cienne depuis l’âge de 13 ans, elle a embrassé en par­allèle la car­rière d’actrice. Elle a not­am­ment tenu le premi­er rôle dans le film Kærestesor­ger de son com­pat­ri­ote Nils Malm­ros, mais ce méti­er n’est pas sa pri­or­ité. Celle qui se rêvait “star” lorsqu’elle était enfant a con­stitué son back­ing-band et trav­aille à la pré­par­a­tion de son premi­er album. « Nous avons don­né notre premi­er con­cert ensemble il y a quin­ze jours. Je compte une dizaine de chan­sons. Deux singles sont déjà sortis et le prochain paraîtra d’ici un mois », explique-t-elle tout en redress­ant ses lun­ettes de soleil, accessoire indis­pens­able sur le roof-top. Repérée lors de fest­ivals comme The Great Escape à Brighton (GB) ou Spot à Aar­hus, Simone Tang s’est égale­ment produite à Trempo et aux Trans Musicales de Rennes dans le cadre de Slash. Elle compte beau­c­oup sur son prochain single, le futur hit Vera, pour con­tin­uer à se faire con­naître au-delà d’Aarhus.

Joanna Rives arrived late into the night after exper­i­en­cing stress­ful tur­bu­lences dur­ing her flight. This morn­ing, the ter­race of the Hotel Ori­on is even sun­ni­er than the day before; people are happy to take off their sweat­ers. The reunion is warm. We kiss each oth­er, ah no par­don in Den­mark no kiss, just a hug. If it was­n’t for the age of the “Slash­ers”, we’d think we were in an Erasmus class (“Erasmos”, we should cer­tainly say in Athens).

Work­shops start at 10 am. Mar­tin talks about “organ­iz­a­tion” with Chloé, Sylvain works on Marta and Simone’s bio­graphy, while Alice pre­pares her “social net­works” strategy with Hans-Paul. Hans-Paul accu­mu­lates the meet­ings. Big day for him because he is already leav­ing tomor­row and he has to work hard with the five musi­cians before his return to Nantes. Nick­named “Hacro-Paul” by French speak­ers, “Sean Paul” by Eng­lish speak­ers, the com­munity man­ager listens and pro­poses, fright­en­ing some people giv­en the unsus­pec­ted quant­ity of things to man­age when you want to devel­op your career on the Inter­net. In the back­ground, a loud­speak­er bel­lows incom­pre­hens­ible sen­tences. The loc­als tell us that a guy is comb­ing the neigh­bour­hood by car to try to unload his fridge or wash­ing machine.

Then, Gregg embarks Simone for a photo shoot­ing on a bas­ket­ball court he has spot­ted a few blocks from the hotel. Simone lives in Aar­hus, Den­mark’s second-largest city in terms of pop­u­la­tion. She has been a musi­cian since the age of 13 and has also pur­sued a career as an act­ress. She played the lead role in the film Kærestesor­ger by her com­pat­ri­ot Nils Malm­ros, but this pro­fes­sion is not her pri­or­ity. The woman who dreamed of being a “star” when she was a child has set up her back­ing-band and is work­ing on her first album. “We gave our first con­cert togeth­er a fort­night ago. I count about ten songs. Two singles have already been released and the next one will come out in a month’s time,” she explains while straight­en­ing up her sunglasses, an essen­tial access­ory on the roof-top. Spot­ted at fest­ivals such as The Great Escape in Brighton (UK) or Spot in Aar­hus, Simone Tang has also per­formed at Trempo and at the Trans Musicales de Rennes as part of Slash. She’s count­ing on her next single Vera, which looks like a hit, to con­tin­ue mak­ing a name for her­self bey­ond Aarhus.
