Athens: day four

Jeudi 20 fév­ri­er : beau­c­oup moins sympa le petit-déjeuner quand le rooftop est asper­gé par une plu­ie froide et inhabituelle. Le mauvais temps, c’est prob­able­ment Romain Lalle­ment, le deux­ième ment­or de Slash 2020, qui l’a ramené de Nantes d’où il est arrivé cette nuit.

Mal­gré la plu­ie, la bonne humeur est tou­jours prég­nante en ce quat­rième jour de form­a­tion et les divers ateliers se mettent rap­idement en place. Sylvain enchaîne les ren­dez-vous avec Alice et Marta qui ont retrav­aillé leurs bios en fonc­tion des remarques émises les jours précédents. Le résultat est déton­nant car les deux musi­ciennes assimi­lent à une vitesse impres­sion­nante. Simone, à la sortie de son entre­tien indi­viduel avec Romain, débarque habillée en « Bar­bie Girl » ; c’est le jour de son shoot­ing photo avec Grecc Bréhin. 

Mar­tin, lui, entame une longue dis­cus­sion avec Gre­gos. Il lui fait part de ses préoc­cu­pa­tions quant à la sortie de son nou­veau clip. Le ment­or lui prodigue quelques con­seils sur la façon de le présenter sur les plate­formes vidéo, puis lui liste les nou­veaux sys­tèmes de con­nex­ion avec les blo­gueurs et les influ­enceurs. Lui-même cinéaste et musi­cien, Greg Vail­lant croise volon­ti­ers les idées avec le Danois, habitué depuis longtemps à dévelop­per seul ses différents pro­jets. À la fin de leur entre­tien, tous deux ont déter­miné les ter­ritoires qu’il serait intéress­ant de pri­or­iser pour Mar­tin, et pas for­cé­ment unique­ment dans le champ musical.

La plu­ie a cessé et les membres de Slash réin­ves­tis­sent la ter­rasse. Par petits groupes, ils s’entraident. Alice donne par exemple un coup de main à Marta pour per­fec­tion­ner sa bio en anglais. Et réciproque­ment. « Le tout est plus grand que la somme des parties », avait l’habitude de dire (bon ok, c’était il y a quelques années) le loc­al de l’étape. Avant sa séance photo, Joanna présente à Sylvain le dossier de presse qu’elle doit justement envoy­er dès le len­de­main à l’équipe de pro­duc­tion de J‑Silk, son pro­jet music­al. Repérés par des médi­as comme Tsugi, Nova, Fip ou Soul­bag, Joanna et ses deux aco­lytes, le bassiste-beat­maker Louis Gaffney et le bat­teur Didi­er Bas­san, ont récem­ment accu­mulé les lives. Des Fran­cofol­ies de La Rochelle au Fest­iv­al Cli­max, en passant par les premières parties de Lee Fields ou Laura Misch. Apres un premi­er EP, WWWD, édité en 2017 en auto-pro­duc­tion, puis la sortie de It’s Up To You sur le label bor­delais Ban­zai Lab, J‑Silk pré­pare aujourd’hui son nou­vel opus 6 titres, oscil­lant entre anglais et français, beat froid et voix chaude, à la croisée de l’électro et de la soul. Quelque part entre Fly­ing Lotus et Amy Wine­house, qui a déclenché chez la jeune Bor­delaise l’envie de se lan­cer dans la musique. Et de s’exiler à Lon­dres où elle a chanté pour la première fois. Cela semble déjà une étern­ité pour cette néo-pro­fes­sion­nelle qui semble si aguerrie.
Ce soir, dir­ec­tion le Six d.o.g.s, un café branché d’Athènes, avec toute la team. « Le tout est plus grand que la somme des party. » Mais ça, c’est pas Aris­tote qui le dit, c’est Grecc Bréhin.

Thursday the 20^th of Feb­ru­ary: much less nice break­fast when the rooftop is sprinkled by an unusu­al cold rain. The bad weath­er is com­ing prob­ably from Romain Lalle­ment, the second ment­or of Slash 2020, who brought it back from Nantes where it arrived last night.

Des­pite the rain, the good mood is still alive, kick­ing on this fourth day of train­ing: sev­er­al work­shops are quickly being set up. Sylvain has a series of meet­ings with Alice and Marta who have reworked their bios accord­ing to the com­ments made the pre­vi­ous days. The res­ult is aston­ish­ing as the two musi­cians assim­il­ate at an impress­ive speed. Simone, at the end of her indi­vidu­al inter­view with Romain, arrives dressed as “Bar­bie Girl”; it is the day of her photo shoot­ing with Grecc Bréhin.

Mar­tin starts a long dis­cus­sion with Gre­gos. He tells him about his wor­ries about the release of his new video. The ment­or gives him some advice on how to present it on video plat­forms, then lists new sys­tems for con­nect­ing with blog­gers and influ­en­cers. Him­self a film­maker and musi­cian, Greg Vail­lant is happy to cross paths with the Dan­ish, who has long been accus­tomed to devel­op­ing his vari­ous pro­jects on his own. At the end of their inter­view, both of them determ­ined the ter­rit­or­ies that it would be inter­est­ing to pri­or­it­ize for Mar­tin, and not neces­sar­ily only in the music­al field.

The rain has stopped and the mem­bers of Slash are rein­vest­ing the ter­race. In small groups, they sup­port each oth­er. For example, Alice is help­ing Marta to per­fect her Eng­lish bio. And vice versa. “The whole is great­er than the sum of its parts”, used to say (well ok, that was a few years ago) the loc­al of the stage. Before her photo ses­sion, Joanna presen­ted to Sylvain the press kit she had to send the next day to the pro­duc­tion team of J‑Silk, her music­al pro­ject. Spot­ted by the media such as Tsugi, Nova, Fip or Soul­bag, Joanna and her two aco­lytes, bassist-beat­maker Louis Gaffney and drum­mer Didi­er Bas­san, have recently been rack­ing up a live album. From the Fran­cofol­ies de La Rochelle to the Cli­max Fest­iv­al, includ­ing open­ing for Lee Fields and Laura Misch. After a first EP, WWWD, released in 2017 in self-pro­duc­tion, then the release of It’s Up To You on the Bor­deaux label Ban­zai Lab, J‑Silk is now pre­par­ing his new 6‑track opus, oscil­lat­ing between Eng­lish and French, cold beat and warm voice, at the cross­roads of elec­tro and soul. Some­where between Fly­ing Lotus and Amy Wine­house, which triggered the young Bor­deaux girl’s desire to get into music. And to go into exile in Lon­don where she sang for the first time. It already seems like an etern­ity for this neo-pro­fes­sion­al who seems so seasoned.
Tonight, she’s off to Six d.o.g.s, a trendy café in Athens, with the whole team. “The whole is great­er than the sum of the parties.” But that’s not Aris­totle who is say­ing that, it’s Grecc Bréhin.
